St George’s Cathedral, Southwark, formally the Metropolitan Cathedral Church of St George, is the Mother Church of the Archdiocese of Southwark, which covers the London boroughs south of the Thames, the county of Kent and the Medway Unitary Authority.

Music
St George's Cathedral has a well-established musical tradition, with a diversity of styles represented at the different Masses, ranging from congregational hymns and Mass settings at the 10am Family Mass sung by the Cathedral Consort youth choir, through plainsong and polyphony at the 12pm Solemn Mass sung by the Cathedral Choir of choristers and lay clerks. There is also a Junior Choir for younger children and the Cathedral runs the Southwark Singing Programme.

Opening of the Jubilee Year 2025

Next Sunday, 29 December, marks the beginning of the Jubilee Year. The theme will be ‘Pilgrims of Hope’.

Archbishop John will be presiding at the 12noon Solemn Mass to solemnly inaugurate this Holy Year.
