St George’s Cathedral, Southwark, formally the Metropolitan Cathedral Church of St George, is the Mother Church of the Archdiocese of Southwark, which covers the London boroughs south of the Thames, the county of Kent and the Medway Unitary Authority.

Music
St George's Cathedral has a well-established musical tradition, with a diversity of styles represented at the different Masses, ranging from congregational hymns and Mass settings at the 10am Family Mass sung by the Cathedral Consort youth choir, through plainsong and polyphony at the 12pm Solemn Mass sung by the Cathedral Choir of choristers and lay clerks. There is also a Junior Choir for younger children and the Cathedral runs the Southwark Singing Programme.

Solemn Requiem Mass for HM Queen Elizabeth II

A Solemn Mass of thanksgiving for the Life and Service of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will take place in St George's Cathedral this Sunday, 11 September 2022 at 12 noon. The Mass will be celebrated by Father Michael Branch, our new Dean, who will be joined by his fellow clergy.

All are welcome to come together in praying for the repose of her Her Majesty’s soul.

A dedicated place of prayer and remembrance is also located within the Cathedral at this time. All are welcome.
