On Wednesday 22 February we mark the beginning of Lent with the celebration of Ash Wednesday. Archbishop John Wilson will celebrate an additional 6pm Solemn Mass on this day.
Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting and abstinence from meat: the law of abstinence binds those who have completed their fourteenth year. The law of fasting binds those who have attained their majority, until the beginning of their sixtieth year. Fasting means consuming only one full meal a day; two smaller meals that don't together add up to a full meal are also allowed.
