Choral and Organ Scholarships at St George’s Cathedral, Southwark: between 1 September 2025 to 1 August 2026

 

Choral Scholarship

St George’s Cathedral, Southwark is offering a one-year scholarship to choral singers seeking to further their experience in the field of church music. This scholarship consists of:

  • Up to £1,750 (18+) or £875 (16+) to be paid in increments 
  • Experience and training in:
  • Choral and solo singing;
    • Sight-singing and musicianship
    • Choral conducting and leadership;
    • Catholic Church Music history and practice, including Gregorian Chant
    • Administering the library of choral music; 
    • Animateur skills and music outreach leadership;
    • Other areas to suit the candidate’s needs and skills. 
  • Opportunities for extra singing that the cathedral lay clerks cannot undertake, according to experience, fees for which will be paid additionally to the Scholarship.

Organ Scholarship

St George’s Cathedral, Southwark is offering a one-year scholarship to organists seeking to further their experience in the field of church music. This scholarship consists of:

  • Up to £1750 (18+) or £875 (16+) to be paid in increments 
  • Experience and training in:
    • Organ playing
    • Accompaniment
    • Sight-reading and musicianship;
    • Catholic Church Music history and practice, including Gregorian Chant
    • Choral conducting and music leadership;
    • Administering the library of choral music; 
    • Animateur skills and music outreach leadership;
    • Other areas to suit the candidate’s needs and skills. 
  • Opportunities for extra playing that the Cathedral Organist cannot undertake, according to experience, fees for which will be paid additionally to the Scholarship.
