Holy Day of Obligation

Thursday 29 June is the solemnity of Saints Peter & Paul and is a holy day of obligation. Masses will be at 7.30am, 12.30pm and 6pm. There will be a retiring collection on this day of Peter’s Pence which allows the Pope to assist the poorer parts of the Universal Church.

Friends of Cathedral Music Grant to St George’s Cathedral

We are delighted to announce that the Friends of Cathedral Music have decided to award St George’s Cathedral a grant of £15,000 towards the provision of new choir-stalls.
This is a particular cause for celebration, since it is the first time St George’s has ever received funding from the Friends of Cathedral Music, and it will make a major contribution to the overall cost. The new choir-stalls will greatly enhance the appearance of the chancel and will enable the Cathedral choirs to project their singing more effectively into the building.
Needless to say, we are extremely grateful to the Friends of Cathedral Music for this generous grant, and we look forward to the arrival of our new stalls during 2018.
There will be a formal presentation of the grant at the 11.30am Solemn Mass on Sunday 15 October.

There are Catholic Truth Society leaflets covering variety of topics available from the back of the cathedral near the Holy Door. All priced at 25p, money should go in the box for papers & leaflets near the main doors.

Last weekend we welcomed John Howard from St. John’s Seminary. John has completed his third year of training for the priesthood. As part of their training all seminarians are appointed to a parish for a year to gain some practical pastoral experience. The Archbishop has appointed John to the cathedral from September so you will be seeing a lot more of him.  John will introduce himself formerly in September but please say hello if you see him.

Retirement

Mrs Ann Higgs, the headteacher of St. George’s Cathedral Primary School, will be retiring at the end of this academic year. There will be a farewell Mass in the cathedral at 5pm on Tuesday 11 July to which any former staff or students who know Mrs Higgs are invited.

Gift Aid Envelopes

If you have not yet been able to collect your new set of Gift Aid envelopes Simone will be at the back of the cathedral after the 6pm Masses on Saturday & Sunday. Simone will also be happy to answer any questions regarding the Gift Aid Scheme.

Clergy News

Archbishop Peter has appointed Rev. Paul Kyne as Assistant Priest at the Cathedral. Deacon Paul will be ordained to the priesthood on 15 July and will start at the cathedral in September.  We look forward to welcoming him.

New Ministries Rota

Friday Eucharistic Adoration - rota

We would like to organise a formal rota for Friday Adoration to ensure hat there is a constant presence before the Blessed Sacrament. If you are prepared to sign up for an hour during the course please fill in on eof the red forms at the back of the cathedral.

An invitation to all over-55s

The Cathedral’s St Vincent de Paul Society would like to cordially invite any parishioners aged over 55 to attend the Seniors’ Social in Amigo Hall on Monday 10th July at 3pm.  A high tea will be served, including sandwiches and delicious cakes, and there’ll be music and other entertainment.  If you’d like to attend, tickets are free – please put your name down on the list at the back of the Cathedral.  If you know anyone who needs transport to get there, please let us know.  For more information call 07716 533621 or email svp@stgeorges.org.uk.

Society of St Vincent De Paul

The SVP continues to collect food for the Waterloo Foodbank.  Collection baskets are at the back of the Cathedral.  Please see the posters at the back of the Cathedral for more details. If you know anyone who may benefit form help from the Foodbank please let one of the priests know.

Flower Pots

Society of St. Vincent De Paul

Thank you for generously supporting the SVP Lenten appeal. The SVP continues to work with the Waterloo Foodbank to collect food for local people in crisis.  Collection baskets are at the back of the Cathedral.  Please see the posters at the back of the Cathedral for more details. Father Thomas - Moving On

Father Thomas will be leaving us at the  end of the summer. Archbishop Peter has appointed him as Assistant Priest at Holy Ghost, Balham, taking up his new appointment in September.  Fr Tom will be greatly missed but we wish him well in his new role. There will be a presentation and farewell Mass, details nearer the time. Another priest will be appointed to the cathedral but no details yet.    

Eucharistic Adoration

Eucharistic Adoration takes place in the Day Chapel every Friday starting at 8am, ending with Evening Prayer and Benediction at 6pm. There is also Adoration from 10am until 12.15pm on Saturday morning.

Catholic Prayer Ministry (CPM)
