Church Unity Octave

From 18 until 25 January the Church observes eight days of prayer for Christian Unity. Every year Christians across the world gather in prayer for growth in unity. We do this in a world where corruption, greed and injustice bring about inequality and division. Ours is a united prayer in a fractured world which is very powerful. During this time let us join with our fellow Christians   in praying for Christ’s healing grace to mend the brokenness of the world.

Peace Sunday

‘Prayer & Pub’ Evening

Divine Mercy Retreat Day

The annual Divine Mercy retreat, led by the Marian Fathers is being held in St George’s on Saturday 26 January, starting at 11am. More details at the back of the cathedral, all are welcome to attend.
 
Dowry Tour of Our Lady of Walsingham

The Slipper Chapel statue of Our Lady of Walsingham is visiting every English Cathedral between 2018 and 2020.  The statue comes to St George’s from 21 – 23 February.  There will be a talks and extra services, including a Eucharistic Healing Service during this time. Funeral Mass

The 12.30pm Mass on Tuesday 22 January will be a requiem Mass for the late Kathleen Mooney RIP.  There will be no confessions that day.

St Vincent de Paul Society – England & Wales

The national SVP office based in Romero House (next door to Cathedral House) have  a vacancy for an admin assistant to start as soon as possible. Details are at the back of the cathedral.

SVP Food Bank Collection

Thank you for your continuing support of the Waterloo Food Bank and the many individuals and families in need in our parish and local area.  The SVP are able to make referrals and issue vouchers in confidence to the Food Bank and we have done so regularly over the past year.  Do you know of anyone or any family who might welcome this support?  Perhaps you are in temporary need yourself?

We are able to issue vouchers in confidence.  To access this help you can:
- Contact any of our parish priests
- Contact any member of the SVP (see SVP poster at back of the cathedral)
- Leave a message on the SVP contact line (07716 533621) leaving a contact name and number and we will get back to you asap.

Cathedral Choir Christmas CD

The Cathedral Choirs have produced a CD of Christmas music entitled: Christmas at St George’s.  It costs £12 and is available to buy from the repository after the 10am and 11.30am Masses and online here:

 

Eucharistic Adoration

Eucharistic Adoration usually takes place in the Day Chapel every Friday starting at 8am, ending with simple Benediction at 6pm. There is also Adoration from 10am until 12.15pm on Saturday morning.

Becoming a Catholic

If you would like to know more about the Catholic Church with a view to becoming a Catholic, a programme of instruction is running on a Sunday morning at 10am in Amigo Hall.  You have been thinking about this for some time, or are already a Catholic but for whatever reason were never confirmed.  Perhaps a friend or family member may like to be invited to join the programme.

Young Adults Group

St Vincent De Paul Group

We have a small but enthusiastic group of parishioners who work together to help those in need - the lonely and isolated or those who don't have enough food to eat or even a home to live in.  You could help this vital work by joining the parish SVP group and giving a little of your time to helping others.  Call 07716 533621 to find out more.

St George’s Cathedral Choirs CD

The CD recording produced by our Cathedral Choirs is now available. Entitled: “O Sacrum Convivium - Music for the Mass”, it features our Girls’ Choir, Boys’ Choir, Choral Scholars and Lay Clerks.  It costs £12 per CD.  The CDs are available to buy in the repository after the 10am and 11.30am Masses, where payment is accepted by cash and cheque.  The CDs can also be ordered online using a credit or debit card by clicking here:
