Annual Mass Count

This is the first weekend of the annual Mass count. Would the counters please make a note of how many are at each Mass and record it on the list in the sacristy.

Walsingham Annual Pilgrimage for the Sanctity of Life

This takes place on Sunday 7 October led by Archbishop Kevin McDonald.  Full details are on flyers at the back of the cathedral and on the noticeboard.

Diocesan Day for Catechists

Takes place at the cathedral and Amigo Hall on Saturday 22 September from 10.30am, ending with Mass celebrated by the Archbishop at 4pm. If you are a  catechist for First Holy Communion, Confirmation or RCIA and would like to attend please contact Fr Paul.

Young Adults Group

Our Young Adults Group meet every Sunday after 6pm Mass. We will recommence on Sunday 7th October at 7pm in the Amigo Hall. If you are aged between 18 to 35+ you are most welcome to come along. Please see Fr Paul after Mass or drop him an email:

School Reference Forms

Any reference forms that need to be signed by a priest should be put in an envelope with your name and phone number and left at the cathedral office. They will not be taken after Mass. Once the forms have been signed you will be contacted about collecting them.

Eucharistic Adoration - update

Eucharistic Adoration takes place in the Day Chapel every Friday starting at 8am, ending with simple Benediction at 6pm. There is also Adoration from 10am until 12.15pm on Saturday morning. There will be no Adoration on Saturday 22 September as the cathedral is being used for the Day for Catechists.

Fr Ola – Farewell Mass

Fr Ola has served at the cathedral for almost four years and has now left to commence further studies in Rome. On Friday 5 October at 6.30pm Fr Ola will return to celebrate his Farewell Mass, to which everyone is invited; it will be followed by a reception in the Amigo Hall.  During the Mass a presentation will be made to Fr Ola. If you would like to contribute to the presentation, envelopes are available at the back of the cathedral marked PRESENTATION. Cheques should be payable to St George’s Cathedral.  Please hand the envelopes to one of the priests or drop it in to the Cathedral Office.

Annual Blessed Sacrament Procession

The annual procession of the Blessed Sacrament from Westminster Cathedral to St George’s Cathedral is on Saturday 29 September, starting from Westminster at 1.30pm and ending with Benediction at St George’s at 2.45pm (approx.).

SVP Food Bank Collection

Our St Vincent de Paul Society is continuing to work with the Waterloo Foodbank to collect food for local people in crisis.  There has been a huge demand for help from the Foodbank over the summer period. Please give what you can. Collection baskets are at the back of the Cathedral.  Please see the posters at the back of the Cathedral for more details.

Volunteer Rotas

If you have not yet taken a draft rota, please take do so as it contains your selected Mass and tasks until January 2019. Please place your name on the top of page one and delete any masses you will not be able to cover and leave in the black tray on the table or give to any member of the clergy. They need to be returned today please.

Bishop Paul Mason

It was announced this week that Pope Francis has appointed Bishop Paul to be the next Bishop of the Forces. This post became vacant three years ago when Bishop Richard Moth became Bishop of Arundel & Brighton. Please remember Bishop Paul as he prepares for this new stage in his ministry.

Fr Daniel Weatherley, Sub-Dean

Canon Richard and Fr Paul are delighted that Archbishop Peter has appointed Fr Daniel Weatherley to be the new Sub-Dean.  Many of you will remember that Fr Daniel spent his pastoral year at the cathedral.  Fr Daniel, who is presently in Canterbury, will start on the weekend of 22/23 September and we look forward to welcoming him. 

St Vincent De Paul Group

We have a small but enthusiastic group of parishioners who work together to help those in need - the lonely and isolated or those who don't have enough food to eat or even a home to live in.  You could help this vital work by joining the parish SVP group and giving a little of your time to helping others.  Call 07716 533621 to find out more.

Appointment of new Director of Music

The Dean of St George's Cathedral, Southwark is delighted to announce that Jonathan Schranz has been appointed to be the Cathedral Director of Music with effect from January 2019.
Canon Richard Hearn says, "Jonathan will bring a great deal to the role and I am confident that he will build upon the great work that his predecessor Norman Harper has done both in developing the choir and enhancing the music tradition at St George's Cathedral".

Mass Intentions

The recent GDPR legislation affects some of the things we publish including Mass intention information. From now on Mass intentions will be shown as: “Name RIP”, or “Intentions of Name” or “Private Intention”. No other information will be given.

A gentle reminder to parents that when they bring their children to Church they are responsible for their safety and welfare. Children should not be wandering about the Cathedral or the Amigo Hall unsupervised.

Director of Music - Norman Harper

Our Director of Music, Norman Harper, will be retiring from his post at the end of the year. Norman has done a tremendous amount to develop the music at St George's for which we are extremely grateful. There will be an opportunity to formally thank Norman towards the end of the year.

St George’s Cathedral Choirs CD
Updated: 12 Jan
The CD recording produced by our Cathedral Choirs is now available. Entitled: “O Sacrum Convivium - Music for the Mass”, it features our Girls’ Choir, Boys’ Choir, Choral Scholars and Lay Clerks.  It costs £12 per CD.  The CDs are available to buy in the repository after the 10am and 11.30am Masses, where payment is accepted by cash and cheque.  The CDs can also be ordered online using a credit or debit card by clicking here:
