Summer Newsletter

Tap’n Pay

The cathedral now has Tap’n Pay machines which allow donations to be made via contactless cards. Donations may be made for £3, £5 or £10. They can also be used to give your Sunday offering for the same amounts.

Confirmation 2020

Enrolment forms are now available for the formation programme which begins in September, with the sacrament of Confirmation to be administered at Pentecost 2020.  Any parishioners in Year 9 or above who are not already confirmed may apply. Please contact Fr Daniel with any queries.

Living Water - The Beauty of Catholicism

A new course begins this autumn (formerly known as the 'RCIA') for any adults who are interested in the Catholic Faith, Catholics who have not been confirmed, or those recently returned to the practice of the faith who would like a fresh look at the foundations of the Faith. Please complete an enquiry form - there is no commitment needed at this stage.

Cathedral Music

This is the last Sunday that the Cathedral Choir will be singing until September.  Our thanks go to our Director of Music, Jonathan Schranz, our Organist and Assistant Director of Music, Frederick Stocken, and all the members of the Cathedral Choir for providing such beautiful music to support our liturgy.  It takes a lot of hard work. The choir now have a well-deserved break until September.   
It is also a sad day as we bid farewell to Yvette Murphy our first Cathedral Organ Scholar.  We would like to thank Yvette for her playing and conducting this year and we wish her well in her upcoming Theology studies at the University of Cambridge, where she will be Organ Scholar at Selwyn College.

Fr Paul Leaving Mass

As you know, Fr. Paul will leave the cathedral in September to take up a new appointment at Clapham Park parish. He will celebrate a farewell Mass on Friday 20 September at 6pm. If you would like to contribute to a presentation to Fr. Paul, envelopes marked ‘PRESENTATION’ are available at the back of the cathedral.

Divine Mercy Pilgrimage

Farewell & Welcome

Fr Paul will be leaving the cathedral in September to take up a new appointment as Assistant Priest at St Bede’s, Clapham Park.  There will be Farewell Mass for Fr Paul, details to follow.  Fr Philip Andrews will be coming to take over from Fr Paul.  Fr Philip is presently Assistant Priest at St Anselm’s, Tooting Bec.  Please remember Fr Paul and Fr Phil as they begin this new stage in their priestly ministry.

Eucharistic Adoration

Adoration takes place on Friday from 8am until 6pm, and on Saturday from 10am until 12.15pm.

Ecumenical Pilgrimage to the Holy Land

On 3-10 March 2020 Southwark Cathedral and St George's Cathedral will make a joint pilgrimage to the Holy Land. It will be led by Bishop Paul Hendricks and the Anglican Bishop of Southwark, Bishop Christopher Chessun, together with the Dean of Southwark, Very Rev. Andrew Nunn, and Canon Richard. The pilgrimage will visit Jerusalem, Bethlehem & Galilee.

The cathedral has a defibrillator which is kept at the sacristy office. It is important that in the case of someone needing assistance everyone is aware that there is one located in the building.

‘Prayer & Pub’ Evening

SVP Food Bank Collection

Our St Vincent de Paul Society is continuing to work with the Waterloo Foodbank to collect food for local people in crisis. Collection baskets are at the back of the Cathedral. Please see the posters at the back of the Cathedral for more details.

Becoming a Catholic

If you would like to know more about the Catholic Church with a view to becoming a Catholic, a programme of instruction is running on a Sunday morning at 10am in Amigo Hall.  You have been thinking about this for some time, or are already a Catholic but for whatever reason were never confirmed.  Perhaps a friend or family member may like to be invited to join the programme.  If you would like to join the group please contact Fr Daniel:

Young Adults Group

St Vincent De Paul Group

St George’s Cathedral Choirs CD

The CD recording produced by our Cathedral Choirs is now available. Entitled: “O Sacrum Convivium - Music for the Mass”, it features our Girls’ Choir, Boys’ Choir, Choral Scholars and Lay Clerks.  It costs £12 per CD.  The CDs are available to buy in the repository after the 10am and 11.30am Masses, where payment is accepted by cash and cheque.  The CDs can also be ordered online using a credit or debit card by clicking here:
