Next Sunday

Next Sunday is the Solemnity of Christ the King and marks the end of the Liturgical Year.  It is also National Youth Day and there will be a collection support the work of the Catholic Youth Service.

Christmas Raffle

Once again, we will be having a Christmas  raffle with prizes totalling £1,000. Tickets are available from the back of the cathedral.

Cathedral Choir Christmas CD

The Cathedral Choirs have produced a CD of Christmas music entitled: Christmas at St George’s.  It costs £12 and is available to buy from the repository after the 10am and 11.30am Masses and online here:


Christmas Fair

The annual Christmas Fair is on Sunday 9 December from 12.30pm – 3.30pm in the Amigo Hall.  We need lots of help to make it a success and there will be an initial meeting for all those interested in helping, after the 10am Mass today, downstairs in the Amigo Hall.  If you have items for the stalls: unopened bottles, quality items for the gifts stall, new toys (but no clothes.) please leave them at the Cathedral Office. 

Eucharistic Adoration

Eucharistic Adoration takes place in the Day Chapel Friday starting at 8am, and ending with simple Benediction at 5.30 this week. There will be no Adoration on Saturday 24 November.

November - Month of the Holy Souls

Envelopes and paper are available at the back of the Cathedral for the names of relatives and friends who have died and who you would like to be remembered during Masses for the Holy Souls.  Their names will also be placed in the Book of Remembrance that will be kept on the altar in the Martyrs Chapel during November. Please give the envelopes to one of the priests or leave at the Cathedral Office

Appointment of Organ Scholar

First Holy Communion Programme

Parents of children starting our First Holy Communion Programme this year are required to attend a Parent's meeting on Thursday 22 November at 7pm Amigo Hall.  If you have previously attended with older children, you are still required to attend this meeting.  If for good reason you are unable to attend,  please contact Fr Paul via email on  

Becoming a Catholic

If you would like to know more about the Catholic Church with a view to becoming a Catholic, a programme of instruction is running on a Sunday morning at 10am in Amigo Hall.  You have been thinking about this for some time, or are already a Catholic but for whatever reason were never confirmed.  Perhaps a friend or family member may like to be invited to join the programme.

School Reference Forms

Any reference forms that need to be signed by a priest should be put in an envelope with your name and phone number and left at the cathedral office. They will not be taken after Mass. Once the forms have been signed you will be contacted about collecting them.

October – Month of the Holy Rosary

October is traditionally the month when there is a particular emphasis on praying the rosary.

St George’s Cathedral Catholic Primary School

If your child was born between 1 September 2014 and 31 August 2015, they should start primary school in September 2019. St. George’s Cathedral Primary School have open days for prospective parents on the following dates;
Wednesday 14 November at 10am
Wednesday 12 December at 10am

Young Adults Group

Our Young Adults Group meet every Sunday after 6pm Mass. We will recommence on Sunday 7 October at 7pm in the Amigo Hall. If you are aged between 18 to 35+ you are most welcome to come along. Please see Fr Paul after Mass or drop him an email:

SVP Food Bank Collection

Our St Vincent de Paul Society is continuing to work with the Waterloo Foodbank to collect food for local people in crisis.  There has been a huge demand for help from the Foodbank over the summer period. Please give what you can. Collection baskets are at the back of the Cathedral.  Please see the posters at the back of the Cathedral for more details.

Fr Daniel Weatherley, Sub-Dean

Canon Richard and Fr Paul are delighted that Archbishop Peter has appointed Fr Daniel Weatherley to be the new Sub-Dean.  Many of you will remember that Fr Daniel spent his pastoral year at the cathedral.  Fr Daniel, who is presently in Canterbury, will start on the weekend of 22/23 September and we look forward to welcoming him. 

St Vincent De Paul Group

We have a small but enthusiastic group of parishioners who work together to help those in need - the lonely and isolated or those who don't have enough food to eat or even a home to live in.  You could help this vital work by joining the parish SVP group and giving a little of your time to helping others.  Call 07716 533621 to find out more.

Appointment of new Director of Music

The Dean of St George's Cathedral, Southwark is delighted to announce that Jonathan Schranz has been appointed to be the Cathedral Director of Music with effect from January 2019.
Canon Richard Hearn says, "Jonathan will bring a great deal to the role and I am confident that he will build upon the great work that his predecessor Norman Harper has done both in developing the choir and enhancing the music tradition at St George's Cathedral".

Our Director of Music, Norman Harper, will be retiring from his post at the end of the year. Norman has done a tremendous amount to develop the music at St George's for which we are extremely grateful. There will be an opportunity to formally thank Norman towards the end of the year.

St George’s Cathedral Choirs CD

The CD recording produced by our Cathedral Choirs is now available. Entitled: “O Sacrum Convivium - Music for the Mass”, it features our Girls’ Choir, Boys’ Choir, Choral Scholars and Lay Clerks.  It costs £12 per CD.  The CDs are available to buy in the repository after the 10am and 11.30am Masses, where payment is accepted by cash and cheque.  The CDs can also be ordered online using a credit or debit card by clicking here:
