Archbishop-elect John Wilson

Please remember in your prayers Archbishop-elect John Wilson as he prepares for his installation as Eleventh Archbishop of Southwark on Thursday at 12noon. Parishioners are invited to attend the Mass but you may need to come early to ensure a seat. The Mass will be followed by a reception in a marquee next to the Amigo Hall.

Ordinations to the Priesthood

Please remember in your prayers Revs. Peter Littleton, Tomasz Margol and Patrick Pullicino who will be ordained to the priesthood in the cathedral on Saturday by Archbishop Peter.

10am Mass Sunday 28 July

Cathedral Closing Early

The cathedral will close at 1.30pm on Wednesday 24 July to allow for preparations for the Installation Mass on Thursday.
Cathedral Music

This is the last Sunday that the Cathedral Choir will be singing until September.  Our thanks go to our Director of Music, Jonathan Schranz, our Organist and Assistant Director of Music, Frederick Stocken, and all the members of the Cathedral Choir for providing such beautiful music to support our liturgy.  It takes a lot of hard work. The choir now have a well-deserved break until September.   
It is also a sad day as we bid farewell to Yvette Murphy our first Cathedral Organ Scholar.  We would like to thank Yvette for her playing and conducting this year and we wish her well in her upcoming Theology studies at the University of Cambridge, where she will be Organ Scholar at Selwyn College.

Fr Paul Leaving Mass

Fr Paul will celebrate his leaving Mass on Friday 20 September at 6pm. It will be followed by a reception in the Amigo Hall. There will be a presentation to Fr Paul, details to follow.

St Oscar Romero Mass

The annual Mass to celebrate the birth of St Oscar Romero will be on Saturday 10 August at 12.30pm. The Mass will be celebrated by Canon Alan McLean and will be followed by a reception in the Amigo Hall.

Divine Mercy Pilgrimage

Farewell & Welcome

Fr Paul will be leaving the cathedral in September to take up a new appointment as Assistant Priest at St Bede’s, Clapham Park.  There will be Farewell Mass for Fr Paul, details to follow.  Fr Philip Andrews will be coming to take over from Fr Paul.  Fr Philip is presently Assistant Priest at St Anselm’s, Tooting Bec.  Please remember Fr Paul and Fr Phil as they begin this new stage in their priestly ministry.

Extra-Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Secondary School Applications for September 2020

If you have a child who will be starting secondary school in September 2020 please make sure you complete one of the purple forms at the back of the cathedral. The priests will be asked to provide a reference stating that you are a regular member of the congregation so please do two things to help us: 1) Make sure you complete and return one of the forms 2) Make sure you introduce yourselves to the priests. We will only sign the school reference form if we know you.

Eucharistic Adoration

Adoration takes place on Friday from 8am until 6pm, and on Saturday from 10am until 12.15pm.

Ecumenical Pilgrimage to the Holy Land

On 3-10 March 2020 Southwark Cathedral and St George's Cathedral will make a joint pilgrimage to the Holy Land. It will be led by Bishop Paul Hendricks and the Anglican Bishop of Southwark, Bishop Christopher Chessun, together with the Dean of Southwark, Very Rev. Andrew Nunn, and Canon Richard. The pilgrimage will visit Jerusalem, Bethlehem & Galilee.

The cathedral has a defibrillator which is kept at the sacristy office. It is important that in the case of someone needing assistance everyone is aware that there is one located in the building.

‘Prayer & Pub’ Evening

SVP Food Bank Collection

Our St Vincent de Paul Society is continuing to work with the Waterloo Foodbank to collect food for local people in crisis. Collection baskets are at the back of the Cathedral. Please see the posters at the back of the Cathedral for more details.

Becoming a Catholic

If you would like to know more about the Catholic Church with a view to becoming a Catholic, a programme of instruction is running on a Sunday morning at 10am in Amigo Hall.  You have been thinking about this for some time, or are already a Catholic but for whatever reason were never confirmed.  Perhaps a friend or family member may like to be invited to join the programme.  If you would like to join the group please contact Fr Daniel:

Young Adults Group

St Vincent De Paul Group

We have a small but enthusiastic group of parishioners who work together to help those in need - the lonely and isolated or those who don't have enough food to eat or even a home to live in.  You could help this vital work by joining the parish SVP group and giving a little of your time to helping others.  Call 07716 533621 to find out more.

St George’s Cathedral Choirs CD

The CD recording produced by our Cathedral Choirs is now available. Entitled: “O Sacrum Convivium - Music for the Mass”, it features our Girls’ Choir, Boys’ Choir, Choral Scholars and Lay Clerks.  It costs £12 per CD.  The CDs are available to buy in the repository after the 10am and 11.30am Masses, where payment is accepted by cash and cheque.  The CDs can also be ordered online using a credit or debit card by clicking here:
