New Archbishop of Southwark

It was with great joy that we learnt that Pope Francis has appointed Rt. Rev Bishop John Wilson as the new Archbishop of Southwark. Archbishop-elect Wilson is presently an auxiliary bishop in Westminster. He will be installed as Archbishop in the cathedral on Thursday 25 July at 12noon.  Please remember Archbishop-elect John in your prayers.  We also give thanks for the pastoral care that Archbishop Peter has given the diocese for the last nine years and wish him well as he prepares for a well-deserved retirement.    

Extra-Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Those wishing to continue as Extraordinary Ministers are asked to attend a meeting on Saturday 22 June at 10.45am in the Amigo Hall.

First Holy Communion

Children who made their first holy communion at the Cathedral yesterday are invited to join the entrance procession of the 10 am Mass next Sunday 23rd June wearing their first holy communion outfits to celebrate the Solemnity of Corpus Christi. Children should line up in the Day Chapel at around 9.50 am.

Gift Aid Scheme

It is still possible to sign up for the Gift Aid scheme which allows the Cathedral to reclaim tax on your donations. You must pay enough tax to cover the tax we – and any other charities you support – will reclaim on your donations. Making Room for God

Secondary School Applications for September 2020

If you have a child who will be starting secondary school in September 2020 please make sure you complete one of the purple forms at the back of the cathedral. The priests will be asked to provide a reference stating that you are a regular member of the congregation so please do two things to help us: 1) Make sure you complete and return one of the forms 2) Make sure you introduce yourselves to the priests. We will only sign the school reference form if we know you.

Seminary Student

Dermott O’Gorman, a student for the priesthood studying at St. John’s Seminary, will be spending a few weeks at the cathedral from 25 May.  He will mainly be working at St Thomas’  Hospital but will also be involved in some parish activities.

Eucharistic Adoration

Ecumenical Pilgrimage to the Holy Land

On 3-10 March 2020 Southwark Cathedral and St George's Cathedral will make a joint pilgrimage to the Holy Land. It will be led by Bishop Paul Hendricks and the Anglican Bishop of Southwark, Bishop Christopher Chessun, together with the Dean of Southwark, Very Rev. Andrew Nunn, and Canon Richard. The pilgrimage will visit Jerusalem, Bethlehem & Galilee.

The cathedral has a defibrillator which is kept at the sacristy office. It is important that in the case of someone needing assistance everyone is aware that there is one located in the building.

‘Prayer & Pub’ Evening

SVP Food Bank Collection

Our St Vincent de Paul Society is continuing to work with the Waterloo Foodbank to collect food for local people in crisis. Collection baskets are at the back of the Cathedral. Please see the posters at the back of the Cathedral for more details.

Becoming a Catholic

If you would like to know more about the Catholic Church with a view to becoming a Catholic, a programme of instruction is running on a Sunday morning at 10am in Amigo Hall.  You have been thinking about this for some time, or are already a Catholic but for whatever reason were never confirmed.  Perhaps a friend or family member may like to be invited to join the programme.  If you would like to join the group please contact Fr Daniel:

Young Adults Group

St Vincent De Paul Group

St George’s Cathedral Choirs CD

The CD recording produced by our Cathedral Choirs is now available. Entitled: “O Sacrum Convivium - Music for the Mass”, it features our Girls’ Choir, Boys’ Choir, Choral Scholars and Lay Clerks.  It costs £12 per CD.  The CDs are available to buy in the repository after the 10am and 11.30am Masses, where payment is accepted by cash and cheque.  The CDs can also be ordered online using a credit or debit card by clicking here:
