Cathedral Carol Service

The Cathedral Carol Service, sung by the combined Cathedral Choir and Cathedral Consort, will be on Thursday 12 December at 7.30pm, followed by wine and mince pies in Amigo Hall.  All are welcome so please invite family and friends to join us.

Advance Notice - Midnight Mass

This year BBC Radio 4 will be broadcasting Midnight Mass live from St George’s. Because of the broadcast schedule the Mass will start earlier at 11.30pm.

God Who Speaks – A year of the Word

Next Sunday we celebrate Bible Sunday which marks the beginning of  'The God Who Speaks', a year of the word to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Verbum Domini, Pope Benedict XVI’s Apostolic Exhortation on ‘The Word of the Lord’, and the 1600th anniversary of death of St Jerome, who translated the Bible into Latin.  This special focus on the Word of God is intended to highlight the importance of sacred scripture in Christian living.

Readers - Ministers of the Word

This weekend to mark the beginning of this special year to focus on the word of God we would like to invite all our Ministers of the Word to renew their commitment to this ministry at whichever Mass they attend. If you are currently registered as a regular reader here at St George's please be ready to come to the Sanctuary area when prompted, to make this renewal of commitment. Thank you for your service to the Parish.

Hospital Visits

If you or a loved one become seriously ill or are admitted to hospital, please ask the hospital for a visit from the hospital's Catholic Chaplain.  If you are a parishioner at St George’s, please also let the priest or parish office know: we are not given this information by the hospital. Thank you.

SVP & Waterloo Food Bank

Thank you for your continuing support of the Waterloo Food Bank which is needed more than ever at Christmas. The collection boxes are at the back of the cathedral so please help as much as you can. The SVP are able to make referrals and issue vouchers in confidence to the Food Bank and we have done so regularly over the past year.  Do you know of anyone or any family who might welcome this support?  Perhaps you are in temporary need yourself? If so, please speak to one of the priests.

Fr Louie Kitt

We are pleased that Archbishop John has appointed Fr Louie to the cathedral clergy team. He will be with us until the summer and will be involved in all parish activities.  

The Passage

Eucharistic Adoration

Adoration takes place in the Day Chapel on Friday starting at 8am, ending at the earlier time of 6pm. There will be Adoration on Saturday morning from 10am until 12.15pm.

Spectacles

Over the past months we have gathered an impressive collection of spectacles and reading glasses which have been left in the Cathedral. If you think you may have left some, please contact the Cathedral Office as soon as possible as they will soon have to be disposed of.  Thank you.

Building Work
Posted: 21 Nov 2019

It will not have escaped your attention that there is building work going on. Please pay attention to any signs. The scaffolding will be up until Christmas at least and during the week it may be necessary to close the main entrance to the cathedral and come in via the Archbishop’s Gates. Apologies for any inconvenience.

Gleam Team

The Gleam Team will be responsible for helping to keep the cathedral clean, tidy and welcoming to visitors. If you are interested in being part of this new
initiative please contact Fr Daniel at frdaniel@stgeorges.org.uk.  The Gleam Team will meet for the first time on Saturday 2 November at 2:45pm, ending by 4:30pm.

Tap’n Pay

The cathedral now has Tap’n Pay machines which allow donations to be made via contactless cards. Donations may be made for £3, £5 or £10. They can also be used to give your Sunday offering for the same amounts.

Ecumenical Pilgrimage to the Holy Land

On 3-10 March 2020 Southwark Cathedral and St George's Cathedral will make a joint pilgrimage to the Holy Land. It will be led by Bishop Paul Hendricks and the Anglican Bishop of Southwark, Bishop Christopher Chessun, together with the Dean of Southwark, Very Rev. Andrew Nunn, and Canon Richard. The pilgrimage will visit Jerusalem, Bethlehem & Galilee.

Defibrillator

The cathedral has a defibrillator which is kept at the sacristy office. It is important that in the case of someone needing assistance everyone is aware that there is one located in the building.

‘Prayer & Pub’ Evening

Becoming a Catholic

If you would like to know more about the Catholic Church with a view to becoming a Catholic, a programme of instruction is running on a Sunday morning at 10am in Amigo Hall.  You have been thinking about this for some time, or are already a Catholic but for whatever reason were never confirmed.  Perhaps a friend or family member may like to be invited to join the programme.  If you would like to join the group please contact Fr Daniel: frdaniel@stgeogres.org.uk

Young Adults Group

St Vincent De Paul Group

St George’s Cathedral Choirs CD

The CD recording produced by our Cathedral Choirs is now available. Entitled: “O Sacrum Convivium - Music for the Mass”, it features our Girls’ Choir, Boys’ Choir, Choral Scholars and Lay Clerks.  It costs £12 per CD.  The CDs are available to buy in the repository after the 10am and 11.30am Masses, where payment is accepted by cash and cheque.  The CDs can also be ordered online using a credit or debit card by clicking here:
